The road between Conneaut and Erie is a good one to bike on. It's got wide shoulders, is pretty flat and in Pennsylvania is designated as a bike route. We had the wind so it was doubly easy.
Our hotel is right in downtown Erie. The Avalon is old but it seems to be pretty nice. It's better, I think, than being at the Best Western out by the interstate. The only problem may be like a lot of small cities that after 5:00 there's nobody on the street but bums - I'll fit right in.
Michel and I walked to a place near the hotel for lunch. I ordered fish and he ordered chicken after we were nearly finished we decided that the waitress had switched our orders. It's a helluva thing when you don't know whether you eating chicken or fish. It reminds me of the time Old Dick - no, I won't tell that story children could be reading this.
Sue brought me a delicious strawberry desert to Niles yesterday. It was unusual. It was like strawberry pie but the crust was broken up and mixed in with the filling-very unique. I think I'll call it "Wrecked Strawberry Pie". Ask her for the recipe.
Tomorrow is a rest day. Some of the Brits are renting a car and driving to Niagara Falls. I think I'll stay here in Erie and catch a few walleye before the carp take over.
Kind of scary, fish or chicken...and they taste the same as each other. I think it is definitely time for a day off, sleep and regroup and order pasta, that is easily identified. As for the pie, it had a rough day Tuesday, but the berries were from Ohio and they were scrumptious. I never did make a strawberry pie as good as Gladden's. They are unforgettable. Once again it was wonderful to see you and rest well for the last section of the ride. It should be interesting. Sleep well, it is 9:02. The eyelids are getting heavy....very heavy. Probably are closed by now. Night, don't the let the bedbugs bite.
ReplyDeletelike most beaver stories, i can understand the censoring, i have heard of lake conneaut, is it there? never paid much attention to erie, pa. but sounds like pennsylvania is a little more bike friendly than ohio...have a good rest day.........it is still hot here.
ReplyDeletei sent you some photos from kiawah...mary alice julian, micki cope weaver are visiting marge this week......mary alice said she is fascinated by south carolina politics......!!i just didn't know what to say....kind of like the pot holes in ohio.....
Sam,
ReplyDeleteHave a good rest day. Since you are staying put in Erie I am sure you have seen all of the brochures on Presque Isle State Park (on the beach). It is a nice place to sit on the shores of Lake Erie and reflect on what you are going to do when you grow up -- if you haven't figured it out yet. You'll probably eat at one of the seafood restaurants right there as well -- I'd recommend the flying carp, the Donner party surprise, or the Canadian bacon fish.
On to upstate New York, huh? Actually, you've got the pretty time of year to peddle up some of those hills -- and coast down a few -- so I'm sure you'll try to appreciate that fact.
I am actually working again today -- you think they pay me for chatting up my friend on his trip? Besides, I want to check out some new YouTube.
Wish you a good journey tomorrow --- Old Dick
Good to see you last Tuesday, Special Agent Watson! We enjoyed the chat.
ReplyDeleteI was really impressed with all the fancy gear and the featherweight bike! With the shoes that fit into the pedals, does it help to pull up on the pedal with one foot while pushing on the other? It's all about the torque.
Have a safe trip the rest of the way. I'm glad Ohio's famous for something: The worst roads in the continental U.S.!
Later, Dude
