Day32 Richmond, IN to Marysville, OH, 104 miles

Today wasn't bad weather-wise. Overcast all day looking like it would rain any minute. Just a brief sprinkle. Temperature in the 80"s.

We rode through lots of small towns. We coasted through the red lights. At 8:00 on Sunday morning there wasn't a lot of traffic. Later on there were people in the parks and people and people coming out of church. Seemed like I was back in Ohio.

Sue updated me on all the Marysville attractions. A lot going on here. We rode by a big prison. I keep thinking that somebody famous is or was a guest here. That should be a query for some more research.

Tomorrow we're off to Wooster. The chart we have shows we'll do as much climbing as back in Missouri. It could be a killer.

  3. As of Oct., 2006 there were 2,011 inmates in the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. Could not find anyone famous but there might be. Wooster as you know is special to me, the campus of The College of Wooster is beautiful. Too bad, school is not in session, the bagpipes could escort you into town. It is one of only a few colleges in the USA to offer bagpipe scholarships. You are now in the "land of Scots", black and gold reign. Be safe and enjoy beautiful Ohio. See you soon. Tomorrow is a special day!

  6. Happy Birthday, Dad! I bet it feels good to be back in Buckeye Country. Ohio is so pretty! I love all the farms, big fat robins, rolling hills and the people are so nice. (Although, the rolling hills are probably pretty challenging to cycle on)...
You should be meeting Sue and Jim for dinner soon, right? Have a great day today, be safe and may the wind be at your back.

  8. Hi Sam!
I go away for a couple of days and you get a year older -- go figure! Actually, I left a message last night and it no longer appears -- did someone get me removed?

Actually, Barbara Hiltbrand (Watson) was a graduate of The Ohio Reformatory for Women. I think she is now in the witness protection program somewhere in tobacco country after coping a plea for a reduced sentence. She is now known as "Barb the Rat" which is funny only because her high school nickname was "Barb the Weasel"-- but enough about Claybrains.

So, Alliance has to be close by -- you can show your fellow riders that graffiti you marked the area with --- real clever stuff on sides of buildings, like "Humpty Dumpty Was Pushed!" No wonder they increased the drinking age from 17 -- er, 18 -- to 21. Had you told us at the Ohio Bar and Grill you planned to peddle across the nation one day, we would have thought you were nuts! Now, we know.

Good luck to you and posse' as you move on -- Old Dick
