Here is a picture of Michel putting ice on his "hot toe". Not sure what hot toe is but he said the ice did the trick. The little stand to his right is set up at each rest stop. It usually has pieces of bananas and other fruit along with some kind of salty snack. This stop was in Avon, NY. It appeared to be a very nice village with a rotary in the middle of town.
One more dog story. Last night we were at the Comfort Inn in Hamburg, NY. Most motels now are "pet friendly"- you can bring your dog, cat, whatever into your room. At this motel a lady had two small dogs that were doing a good bit of yapping. One of the guys in our group in the room next to the dogs asked the motel manager for a different room because of the noise. The manager was very accommodating and found the guy another room. Not long after the police arrived and escorted the lady and her dogs out. I guess you can bring your animals to the Comfort Inn but they'd better be quiet. Remember that Old Dick when you travel with your parrot.
We passed 3000 miles today which means we've only got about 400 to go. Maybe like Old Dick says if I don't do anything stupid I just might make it. He gives great advice.
congratulations Sam, 3,000 miles. WOW!!!!!!I'm exhausted just from following your blog. I knew that you would succeed in this venture, what I did not realize is what a pleasure and informative time that it would be for us reading you nightly epistles. I have said it before, but you have been generous with your tired spirit to blog each night. Thank you. On to Syracuse....the "Orange" nation for sports. The Onondaga Nation (part of the Iroqois Confederacy invited some French missionaries to set up a mission on the shore of Onondaga Lake....The Mowhawk Nation then asked them to leave or a they would suffer a terrible fate. Syracuse is known as the "Salt City" because of the brine from salty springs along the shore of the lake. Syracuse is named after Siracusa, a city in Sicily. Modern News: there is a black bear roaming Syracuse, it is a young male hopefully trying to find a mate...it is that time of year, you might warn the ladies in the group; but, the way Harold's life is going, the bear will probably become attracted to him. Have a safe trip and hope you didn't get wet today. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteSammy,
ReplyDeleteYou are a Phenomenal man! We are celebrating you tonight with a manhattan. CHEERS TO SAMMY!
We are staying in Portland,Maine, on Monday night...ride on up if you want!
Love and may your final 400 miles be safe,
Marge, Beth, and Mary Alice
Goofy,
ReplyDeleteIf you come up a little short on snacks I'd check the pockets of those blue-shirt guys (I assume they are with you?) -- no wonder you are afraid to ride in the van!
Happy Father's Day to us. Like Susan says, there is something about your "Blog watch" that adds to every day -- I also want to say thanks for keeping us updated during your many weary nights on the road. Now, if you have a good bear story for us tomorrow that would top the hot toe report.
You once told me what to do when a bear comes after me on a hiking trail. I think you told me to play dead -- I am not sure if that works with horny bears. I would say to peddle like a mad man!
I don't have any advice for getting rid of an angry Indian except if I follow Sue's story and the angry Indian is an Onondaga, see if your buddy Michel can talk him down in French.
Emmerling called me on Friday. I gave him your Website so you may need to use that Report Abuse link at the top of the page if you get some abuse mail.
Wish you safe travels this week, Sam.
Old Dick

everyone needs to check out the light in the early morning and early evening tomorrow.....the solstice......long shadows.......it is a spectacular celestial show, and actually free........
ReplyDeleteSam you truly are da man. Old Dick shared your info with me and although late I am finding your trip and blog absolutly amazing. I've also shared your info with Vacar, Hackett, Hart, Joseph & Bauman. Had Rosemary and I known you were going to be in Marysville we would have brought a care package for your weary bones. Much like Chaz & Judy did.
ReplyDeleteWe were at Mary Bauman's wedding last Saturday night and sat with the Hackett's & Carter's. I told them what you were up to and they said to say hi.
You have inspired me to do the same thing you are doing one of these years. As soon as I can afford that Corvette I always wanted we'll retrace your bike path.
I hope you are planning to accompany Babs to Salem for her 25th (?) in July. You can also crash Old Dick's Class of '60 - 8th Grade 50th Reunion at St. Paul's School. Patty Bauman has given us dispensation so we can have adult beverages in the gym (the same gym where Old Dick or Chunky or Mickey Jo or Diesel still hold the record for most points in a practice)
Looking forward to the finish of your trip and enjoying reading the blog.
Give Babs a squeeze for us when you see her again.
Best,
Chuck
hi rosemary and em......great you have gotten on the train........it will be my 45th.....i will yield to the hug, let alone a squeeze.......that old dick is always up to something........
